Training + Mentorship details

Why Did I Create This Training?

Movement is my communication, self-expression + therapy. I love moving my body + I’ve been training this machinery of bone + muscle since I began my dance career decades ago. I love teaching others to move, honor, challenge + celebrate their bodies. Few things feel as good as living at ease + empowered in our body.

I want us to get better. Beginning on the yoga mat.
I want you to feel real progress. To understand alignment more acutely, to level up safely into advanced postures, to deepen your meditation, to expand your breathwork, to strengthen your body intelligently + avoid injury.

Over the years, I’ve stood in front of hundreds of rooms + thousands of bodies. It’s a privilege, it’s tremendously rewarding, it’s super fun + it’s a responsibility I take seriously. We span the spectrum: younger/older, flexible/tighter, encouraged/demoralized, injured/not, harried/centered. I witness people grow into the most remarkably physically strong version of themselves. And I can testify to how the anxious move into calm + the noisy-headed find meaningful quiet (er) minds.

I’m often asked if I could train people to become yoga teachers. One day I will. But right now, I see an opportunity for everyone — not just future teachers — to go deeper. To refine, to grow, to get better.

The truth is, many people sign up for Yoga Teacher Training not necessarily because they want to teach, but because they crave this deeper knowledge of their own practice. A 200-hour RYT program is a huge commitment — 200 hours and around $3000 for a good hands-on one. And for most, there’s nothing in between the casual weekly class + that massive leap. This training is that middle ground. Regardless of your level — beginner or advanced — this training helps you step up, layer in wisdom + experience yoga’s potency: its mindfulness, joyfulness, playfulness + intelligence. We touch on anatomy, history, basic Sanskrit, principles, dharma, spirituality + breathwork. Perhaps this becomes a stepping stone to teaching, perhaps it’s simply about you + your practice.

Since the pandemic, classes have shifted. What used to be 75–90 minutes is now often just 60. We move fast, rush in + rush out, distracted by the logistics of life. It works well enough for a weekly class, but it doesn’t give us the depth where the extra good stuff of yoga hangs out. This training is a chance to slow down. To restore that depth, discipline + integrity of our practice.

For me, yoga has been this unexpected gift. It changed the trajectory of my life + health. Its added chapters to my life story + promises to keep me challenged daily. As many of you know, I love sharing the things I love- from dharmas of storytelling to my retreats. I have been working on this for a while now + can’t wait to share it with you. I’m so excited for us to get better together.

FAQ + ANticipated questions

+ Who should take this training? Who is this training intended for?

If you've taken a yoga class, I'm calling you a yogi. This training is intended for: the curious yogi who simply wants to learn more about the wisdom of its history, principles and asana (physical practice), the I-never-quite-got-the-fundamentals-even-though-I've-been-taking-class-for-months/years yogi, the I-might-want-to-be-a-yoga-teacher-but-maybe-not yogi, the more beginner yogi who wants to ensure they have a solid foundation, the advanced yogi who wants to take their practice to the next level, the yogi who feels my style of teaching resonates with them, the nerdy yogi like me who just likes to learn more about the things that interest them, the yogi who walked into a yoga class, fell in love, but still doesn't quite know what is heppening in class.

+ How does this differ from a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

As per the name, in order to become a yoga teacher, you need to take a 200 Hour Teacher Training (according to Yoga Alliance which is the "governing body" for yoga studio regulation). The 200 hour training covers a lot of information- frankly some of which might not be relevant to many people. It also requires significant hours practicing teaching in front of a room, assisting students, observing classes to learn from watching. My 20 hour training peels away layers and focuses on what I believe we want to work on: your practice, your knowledge, your betterment. It is less expensive, fewer hours and more concentration on you and your yoga practice rather than your potential teaching skills.

+ What If I have no interest in ever becoming a yoga teacher?

Super. This is not geared to teaching you how to teach yoga. This is geared to bringing you deeper and more informed into your own yoga practice

+ Do I need to have taken class with you before?

No. But you should have some yoga classes under your belt. If you want to get a sense of my teaching style, try some class on TOOTSIE OLAN DIGITAL STUDIO

+ How does payment work?

You will click on the registraton button to register for a spot. Space is limited, so a spot is not guaranteed. When we receive your registration, we send you link for payment. Full payment of $750 fee is expected at registration and we are happy to accomodate payment installments for your convenience

+ How many people can take this training?

This is intentionally going to be an intimate training. I want the opposite of regular class. I want to give you more attention than we get in class, more hands on assists, more time to ask questions, more opportunities to understand what, how, why we are moving in yoga the way we do. Space is limited!

+ Are we doing a 3 hour yoga class?

No. Part of each class will have movement but much of it will be breaking down poses, learning through conversation, demonstration rather than movement.

+ What are we learning?

We will be covering various themes: anatomy, history, dharma, basic sanskrit, sequencing (linking movement), proper and safe asana technique, breathwork, meditation, injury prevention.

+ What if I cannot do this round of training because the times do not work for me?

I understand that the times for this training will not be conducive to many of those who have regular working hours. Upcoming rounds of this training will have different hours. These are the house for this training. No, next round of training has not yet been scheduled.

+ Do I have to be an advanced yogi? Is this really for ALL levels?

No. You do not need to be advanced! You can be any level yogi. Yes, it is really for all levels. But, yes, you must be curious, open-minded + have a great attitude. You will level up your practice from where YOU are.

+ I don't live in the NYC/NJ area. Will this be available online?

Yes. Stay tuned. It is not available online yet but will be!
